At Coed Y Brain Primary School, we understand the importance of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and how children’s rights influence the way we support, protect and educate our pupils. Although our school policies do not currently refer to each article separately, the values and principles behind children’s rights are reflected throughout our practice.

Key rights that are particularly relevant within a school environment include:

Article 2 – Every child should have their rights recognised and respected, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Article 3 – Decisions made about children should always consider what is best for them.

Article 12 – Children should be encouraged to share their opinions and have their views listened to and valued.

Article 28 – All children have the right to access education.

Article 29 – Education should help children develop their skills, confidence, talents and full potential.

Article 23 – Children with disabilities should receive appropriate support and care to help them thrive.
